As the final buzzer sounded on a great district basketball tournament, another team stepped up to finish the job — our custodial staff. This image is an example of what they encountered each night of the tournament in every section of the bleachers.
We want to publicly thank our custodians for the long hours they put in to get our gym back in shape after each day. Their work often happens behind the scenes, but it does not go unnoticed. They showed up early, stayed until the early morning hours, and took pride in making sure our school was ready for students the next day. We are incredibly grateful for them. Thank you Bruce, Kitty, Eirik, Kelin, Milissa, and all of the “Blue Vest Volunteers”!

Last week the 8th graders got to do some stages experimenting with the properties of waves, and today the 7th Graders are getting to observe Diatoms and other protists.

Students using metal tuning forks and water to study the effects of vibrations with waves.
Students using prisms and diffraction glasses to observe changes in light waves.

Students using a metal slkinky to observe how waves carry energy through a medium.

Some times failure is a good thing! The MHS Engineering class completed their bridge building unit by testing their bridges. The bridges were judged by comparing the mass of the bridge to the mass of sand the bridge supported. The team of Bryce, John, and Kayden came out on top with a bridge that supported 87.34 times its own mass. That is 7005 grams or about 15 lbs! Strong work, gentlemen! In the end bridges were broken but lessons were learned!

Did you know MES has a whole curriculum in place for bully prevention? We also have a specific school wide committee dedicated to bully prevention.
Pictured above is the PBIS curriculum Stop, Walk and Talk. This empowers students to stand up for themselves in an assertive and respectful way. They also spend time understanding the difference between bullying and being mean/conflict. All kinder through 5th graders recieve this instruction.
Next is the school wide quarterly activity called "The Wrinkled Heart" where students discuss the importance of thinking before speaking and using kind words.
Finally is some of the cafeteria art work from the K-5 unit on empathy and kindness. Students learn about positive friendship skills, listening to understand and inclusion.
At MES our staff truly wants to create a safe and positive learning environment for EVERYONE!
