On May 5, Governor Greg Gianforte visited Malta High School (MHS) to witness firsthand the innovative Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs and facilities shaping the next generation of Montana’s workforce. The tour, led entirely by MHS students, highlighted the school’s diverse curriculum and its focus on real-world skill acquisition.
During the visit, student leaders introduced the Governor to several key departments and the educators who lead them:
Dual Credit & Work-Based Learning: Senior AJ Marquis discussed the school’s robust collegiate partnerships. MHS offers in-person dual credit courses including College Algebra, taught by Mr. Nick Oxarart (MSU-Northern), and College Writing, taught by Mrs. Rawnie Crasco (Miles Community College). Malta High School also works with local businesses to allow students a chance for work-based learning classes which allow students to earn credit while receiving onsite, hands-on learning opportunities in areas of career interest. The work-based learning and college courses are facilitated by Mrs. Kate Webb and the online programs are overseen by Mrs. Milissa Flatt.

Agriculture Education: Marquis also presented the Ag program, which includes courses in horticulture, animal science, and ag entrepreneurship. These programs, taught by Ms. RyLee Mix, which feed directly into the school’s FFA chapter, emphasize the practical application of agricultural science.
Multimedia & Creative Arts: Sophomore Regan Stuart showcased the Multimedia class taught by Mrs. Shayley Simanton. Students in this program use advanced technology, including drones and professional cameras, to create content for local radio station KMMR and area businesses.

STEM & Engineering: Junior John Ritchey demonstrated the Engineering Principles course taught by Mr. Sean Estill. The curriculum utilizes a "build-test-improve" model, where students tackle projects involving 3D modeling, windmill design, and electrical circuitry.

Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS): Junior and FCCLA State Officer Averee Matthews guided the Governor through the FCS department. These courses, led by Ms. Katie Smith, covering culinary arts, interior/fashion design and comprehensive FCS, focus on transferable life skills and leadership.

Trades & Industrial Arts: Senior Sonny Gray concluded the tour in the welding and woods shops both of which are taught by Mr. Bryan Benton. He highlighted the welding dual-credit options and a new carpentry class, where students are building a shed to be sold to the community to fund future program expansions.

Malta High School was honored to have the Governor visit our school and see many of the great programs that we offer. We are continuously looking for ways to keep our course offerings current and responsive to the needs of the job market. Malta High works hard to provide a well-rounded education that challenges our students while also setting them up for future success. Malta High School wants to thank Governor Gianforte for making a stop at our school.
